The semi-fast train from Jakarta-Surabaya’s construction will commence by the end of 2023, collaborating with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Zulfikri, the Director-General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation has confirmed the news. 

Zulfikri stated that the Ministry of Transportation will sign the Memorandum next week, and currently in the process of negotiating the technical points of the agreement. The government will continue the process on conducting the study to prepare the design and clear the lands. 

The flyovers will be built in 400 areas, and is set to cut off the travelling time to 5.5 hours – compared to the regular train. The semi-fast train speed is expected to be at 160 km/hrs.
