Belum ada pembalap yang berhasil meraih titel untuk kedua kalinya.

Apakah kita akan melihat muka baru dalam pemegang titel musim 5? Apakah akan ada kutukan bagi Jean-Eric Vergne yang membuatnya tak bisa meraih gelar kedua? We'll see.

Merupakan tim pertama yang berhasil kunci finis 1-2 pertama di Formula E musim lalu di Santiago. Sungguh menegangkan waktu mereka colekan pas akhir-akhir takut salah satu diantara mereka berdua DNF emoticon-Hammer2 Musim lalu tim ini cem RBR yang pake powertrain Renault tapi bisa ngasepin pabrikannya.

Massa will move to Formula E after F1 exit

Quote:Felipe Massa says he will head to Formula E if he does not extend his stay in Formula 1 next season.

The Brazilian retired from F1 at the end of last year, only to be persuaded to rejoin Williams when Valtteri Bottas left for Mercedes.

He said earlier this year that he had begun talks with Williams about extending his stay in F1 to a 15th year.

Massa is believed to be one of a number of drivers on the team's shortlist, that includes Sergio Perez, to line up alongside Lance Stroll in 2018.

When asked if he had any back-up plans if F1 is not an option next year, Massa said: "Yes, Formula E. But I don't know when."

Massa tested for Jaguar and spoke to the team about a 2016/17 drive before committing to Williams.

Motorsport.com understands those conversations have continued but are not something that is been pursued for the short-term.

"I did a test with them," added Massa. "When I decided to stop F1, I was talking with some teams and with Formula E. I wanted to see the car, I wanted to drive the car and see how it is. I did a test with them just to see how it is.

"You cannot compare [it to Formula 1]," he said. "It's completely different but it is still a competition. [There are] some great ideas for the future and the championship is growing.

"I think it's fantastic [that new manufacturers are entering], and I see a big future in that category for a driver, especially after F1."

Massa said he has yet to decide on his future, adding that he is motivated to compete in F1, but only if he has a competitive package.

"I need to analyse everything and then decide what is my option for next year and if the options I have are making me happy," he said.

"I feel that I am competitive. When you see you are competitive and are doing a good job in the car, that really motivates you.

"But it's true I don't want to be in F1 to be at the back, I want to have a proper job and this is part of my ideas for the future."


Lynn replaces Lopez at DS Virgin Formula E squad

Quote:Alex Lynn will replace three-time WTCC champion Jose Maria Lopez in DS Virgin Racing’s driver line-up for the 2017/18 Formula E season.

Ex-Williams F1 development driver Lynn joined DS Virgin earlier this year as its reserve driver and made his Formula E debut in New York when Lopez had to miss the double-header because of his Toyota LMP1 commitments.

Lynn claimed pole for his debut but retired from both races, and now steps up to a race seat on a “multi-year” deal that will pair him with Sam Bird, who remains with DS Virgin for a fourth season.

“I am over the moon at being promoted to a full-time drive with the DS Virgin Racing Formula E team,” said Lynn.

“Having worked very closely with them since January, it has been a genuine pleasure to learn from such a fantastic group of high quality engineers and to integrate myself into their set-up.

“I would specifically like to thank [team principal] Alex Tai for not only giving me the chance to make my series debut in New York, but for subsequently promoting me to this full-time race seat.

“I intend to fully repay everyone’s faith in me on track next season.”

Bird has won five races with DS Virgin, and is the only driver other than title winners Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi to be victorious in each Formula E season.

He finished fourth in the drivers’ championship last season, and took a rare double win in the pair of New York races.

“Last season saw us take some big steps forward in terms of pace and energy management – as our double victory in New York showed – and I know the team has been working hard on maintaining this competitive edge,” said Bird.

“I’m looking forward to further success in season four and to be partnering with Alex who will no doubt prove to be a real asset to the team.”
Lopez may be forced to sidelines

Lynn’s promotion to a full-time race seat means Lopez may have to spend the 2017/18 season on the sidelines.

Lopez scored two podiums in a rapid but erratic rookie campaign, and a report in the Argentine’s home country last weekend alleged a breakdown in Lopez's relationship with Tai.

Alongside Lynn’s confirmation, Tai and DS performance director Xavier Mestelan Pinon thanked Lopez for his 2016/17 efforts, with Pinon highlighting his “valuable technical feedback”.

Though Lopez has previously indicated a desire to stay in the series, only a handful of seats are understood to still be available and those options are with non-race-winning teams like Venturi and Andretti.

Lopez’s FIA World Endurance Championship programme beyond the end of 2017 is also uncertain, with his employer Toyota yet to commit to the series following Porsche's withdrawal.

Mahindra Formula E team invites fans to design 2017/18 livery

Mahindra's initiative to allow fans to design its Formula E car livery will continue for the 2017/18 season.

The team ran a fan design for the first time last season, using Adria Haro Jorba's livery for the entire 2016/17 campaign, in which Mahindra claimed its breakthrough FE win with Felix Rosenqvist in Berlin.

During the same weekend, Mahindra's German driver Nick Heidfeld ran a special racesuit, also adorned with a fan-created design.

The contest has now been relaunched for Mahindra's M4Electro, which ran in public at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year in the 2016/17 livery.

In addition to Mahindra running the livery, the winner will spend a day with the chief designer at the Pininfarina design studio in Turin.

Mahindra purchased iconic stylist Pininfarina last year.

Team principal Dilbagh Gill said Mahindra was determined to continue to engage with its fans, which the marque refers to as 'passioneers'.

"The enthusiasm of our passioneers during previous #DrivenbyDesign contests encouraged us to give them yet another opportunity to showcase their design flair and creativity," he said.

"The entire Mahindra Racing team can't wait to see what they come up with for the livery our new M4Electro race car."

Entries must be lodged via www.drivenbydesign.mahindrafe.com and the deadline for submissions is 10am UTC on September 18.


Why Nelson Piquet Jr would be Jaguar's perfect Formula E signing

Quote:Jaguar is poised to announce its 2017/18 Formula E driver line-up this month, and signing inaugural champion Nelson Piquet Jr would be a surprising but excellent move.

Piquet was thought to be off the market for the coming season, which would make a move to Jaguar as unexpected as it would be a brilliant piece of business.

Jaguar signed Mitch Evans and Adam Carroll for its debut FE season, but struggled to make an impact in the 2016/17 campaign as it wrestled with a below-standard first attempt at a powertrain.

Backed by Williams Advanced Engineering and armed with the experience of its first season, which at least included several points finishes, Jaguar is expected to make a significant step forward in 2017/18.

Securing a strong driver line-up is a key part of its push and Autosport understands a decision was made to end Carroll's deal after a single season, although Evans's strong form must have earned him an extended stay.

Piquet, who is understood to have pushed hard for a move to Jaguar, has been a target for the British manufacturer for a long time. But one of the key hurdles to overcome was extricating himself from his existing team.

NextEV announced last summer it had retained Piquet as part of a multi-year deal alongside Oliver Turvey. Piquet's relationship with the team has yo-yoed over three contrasting seasons and an exit was to be expected at some point, if not so quickly.

Jaguar is expected to confirm its drivers later this month, and announcing Piquet would mean it overcame an obstacle that once seemed insurmountable - presenting its biggest indicator yet of how seriously it is taking its FE programme.

While Piquet has not won a race since clinching the inaugural FE drivers' title, he would be a major coup for a new team such as Jaguar.

Along with a deft touch for energy management, Piquet offers the perfect benchmark for rising star Evans and has a wealth of experience to offer the Jaguar/Williams technical alliance. Few offer the same development capabilities.

It would also be a reward for Piquet, who remained loyal to Team China Racing/NextEV (the same entry, regardless of name).

Thanks to backing from Adrian Campos, Piquet joined the unfancied Team China Racing operation - as background politics threatened to block his move into the electric series - and claimed the inaugural drivers' title in surprising fashion against Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi.

As FE moved to open technical development in 2015/16 TCR, with fresh NextEV backing, struggled with a cumbersome powertrain. Win-less, podium-less and with a best finish of eighth, Piquet finished 15th in the championship, but drew hope from a massive restructuring within NextEV that included the complete takeover of the entry and dismissal of Campos as the operating team.

Piquet took pole for the 2016/17 season opener in Hong Kong, but remained podium-less and failed to score points in the final six races as NextEV's second powertrain proved potent but inefficient.

As Buemi and di Grassi swept to their first titles in two seasons Piquet was little more than a footnote in the story, Autosport understands his patience wore thin. Whoever partners Turvey at the now-NIO-branded team next season will move to an outfit that has potential, but has not harnessed it properly thus far.

It is easy to see why a Jaguar-Williams partnership was so highly coveted by Piquet, and equally why the man himself has been a target for the team.

Valencia pre-season test dates confirmed

Quote:Formula E will have a new official test venue ahead of season four, with three days of collective testing taking place at the Ricardo Tormo track in Valencia over October 2-5.

The 3.09km National Circuit configuration of the track will be used, with an additional chicane inserted on the start/finish straight. Each day of testing will be split into two sessions, with cars running between 9-12 in the morning session and 2-5 in the afternoon.

The 10 Formula E teams will be active on October 2, 3 and 5.

Jaguar launches one-make Formula E support series

Quote:Jaguar will launch a one-make Formula E support series in 2018 that will be the world’s first championship for a production-based electric car.

The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY will join the Formula E package for the 2018/19 season, becoming its first dedicated support category.

While details of the technical specification, calendar and price will not be confirmed until next year, Jaguar’s announcement that it will be a 10-round series suggests it will feature at all Formula E events.

It will be capped at 20 drivers, including a 'VIP' entry at each round, while the format will comprise a practice and qualifying session and a 30-minute race.

Jaguar has also revealed it is planning an arrive-and-drive package that will include the entry, technical and logistical support, spares, hospitality and more.

The series, revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, will coincide with the launch of the I-PACE, Jaguar Land Rover’s first all-electric vehicle, in the second half of 2018.

JLR’s special vehicle operations department will build the racing versions of the all-wheel-drive five-seater sports car, which should begin testing early next year.

Jaguar Racing, which operates the Formula E team, will run the cars.

The Indian-owned British manufacturer joined the series last year and finished last of the 10 teams, but had effectively written it off as a learning campaign and is aiming to make a significant step forward in the coming 2017/18 season.

A Jaguar statement said the I-PACE series “reinforces Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to electrification”, and comes a week after its announcement that all new JLR model lines will contain either hybrid or battery technology from 2020.

Gerd Mauser, JLR chief marketing officer and the chairman of Jaguar FE team, said: “As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world’s first production battery electric vehicle championship.

“We’ve always said we want to prove our electrification technologies on the track – this is the proof.

“I am looking forward to seeing a full grid of Jaguar I-PACE race cars in late 2018, soon after the first Jaguar I-PACE hits the road in Europe.

“Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers.”

Mauser added that “we expect our series to be a sell-out and an exciting international sporting event”.

Formula E and the FIA have been exploring the possibility of a support series for some time.

The inaugural season featured races from the ‘Formula E School Series’, a Greenpower Education Trust-backed featuring small student-built electric cars.

In Hong Kong last season there was a one-off event for electric Volkswagen Golfs, the first time Formula E was supported by production cars.

FIA president Jean Todt has highlighted the significance of adding a legitimate support category to Formula E, and series founder Alejandro Agag said he is “delighted” it will come with a premium brand like Jaguar.
