Industry Seoul signs defence accord with Warsaw to drive defence exports to Poland

Jon Grevatt, Jane's Asia-Pacific Industry Reporter, Bangkok - IHS Jane's Defence Industry

23 October 2013

The South Korean government has signed a defence accord with Poland, the latest in a series of international agreements entered into by Seoul intended to drive military exports.

The accord between South Korea and Poland was signed on 22 October in Seoul between President Park Geun-hye visiting Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski.

The defence co-operation agreement covers a range of activities including military training and exercises and also facilitates defence industrial collaboration between the two countries, which in turn is geared towards supporting Poland's potential purchase of South Korean-made materiel.

In this sense the agreement is certainly focused on supporting Poland's planned purchase of a lead-in fighter trainer, a programme for which South Korea has offered the Korea Aerospace Industries' T-50 advanced jet trainer (AJT).
