The “Batgirl” movie from DC Films will be the first live-action feature film set in the DCEU that will be made exclusively for HBO Max. Warners and DC have already hired an interesting creative team with the directing duo of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Ms. Marvel,” “Bad Boys For Life“) working from a script penned by go-to DC writer Christina Hodson (“The Flash,” “Birds of Prey“).

A new report from Deadline has revealed that actor Brendan Fraser has joined the HBO Max pic as a villain, potentially in the role of DC Comics baddie Firefly. If you’re unfamiliar with Firefly, he’s a tech-based villain that uses a jetpack to fly around and, as you imagine from his name, uses a flamethrower as a primary weapon.

Leslie Grace (“In The Heights“) has already taken the role of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, with J.K. Simmons returning as her father, Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, last seen in “Justice League.” Jacob Scipio, who played the big bad of “Bad Boys For Life,” also has a mysterious part in the new movie; it’s unclear if he’ll be playing friend or foe to Grace’s Gordon.

While it hasn’t been made official, the directors have teased Batman’s inclusion without stating what actor will be donning the cowl. There is an expectation that Michael Keaton’s Batman from “The Flash” could be appearing in the superhero pic after THR hinted that Keaton’s deal with Warner Bros. could include “Batgirl” as part of a more significant overall deal. Other DC film projects heading to the HBO Max streaming service include “Blue Beetle“ and “Zatanna.”
