Love of My Life is my genuine fave Queen song. Queen is one of the 20th century's biggest rock bands, formed in London in 1970. My dad is the one that made me listen to their song since I was younger. Love of My Life was written, sung, and played by Freddie Mercury (with guitar sequences added in by Brian May). When I hear the lyrics first, I think it is just an ordinary romantic song, but after I watched his documentary film “Bohemian Rhapsody” last year, I’d know the story behind this song and it was truly amazing. This song has a deep meaning, the lyrics are really beautiful and emotional everytime I really listen closely to them. Now I understand why my dad used to love their old rocks songs

This song dedicated by Mercury to his ex-fiance and best friend, Mary Austin. The two met in 1970 and moved in together in 1973. By 1980 Mercury had confessed that he is a bisexual, Austin was shocked and chose to leaved Mercury for a while. In the documentary film Mercury repeatedly calls Mary the love of his life, and it releaved in this lyrics “Love of my life, you've hurt me you've broken my heart and now you leave me”. It’s not easy for both of them, Mercury was obsessed with Mary Austin, but that could not prevent him from getting into relationships with other partners, especially men. He would even break down and cry because he couldn't stop thinking about men when he’s with Mary. In other hand, Mercury came from Pakistani family and his parents didn’t accept that he wasn’t straight. It made he was under a lot of pressure.

After a while, Mercury meet again with Mary at a night club, Mercury was so happy to see again, but then he disappointed when Mary with another man, Mary looks so happy with her new man but Mary still being nice with Mercury, Mary introduces Mercury to her new boyfriend and telling him that Mercury is her closest friend.. but still, Mercury can’t hide his-truly-sad face,. “Love of my life, don't leave me You've taken my love, you now desert me”In this lyrics, Freddie Mercury is talking about his apparent breakup. However, he is pleading for her to come back in this emotional outcry.




“Bring it back, bring it back (back), bon't take it away from me because you don't know what it means to me”from this lyrics, Mercury begs Mary to give him her love back. Mary had been a major part of Mercury’s life in the band’s toughest times as well as their peak. She had been a major source of strength and inspiration in Mercury’s life and music.

"You will remember, when this is blown over and everything's all by the way when I grow older, I will be there at your side To remind you how I still love you (I still love you)” Mercury knows she is not coming back (as a couple). He affirms to her that she will remember all the good times even after they are over their relationship. Mercury says that even if they are not together, he will still love her till he dies. And yeah it's true, after death in 1991 Mercury left Mary his house and 75% of is money.

So, at the end of this review, this song makes me more love the music whatever language it is. Freddie Mercury is a legend, Queen is a legend and all queen song have a place in my heart all to do with my dad and childhood. There have been covers of this song over the years, but nothing beats Freddie Mercury who sings with the true passion for Mary Austin for whom he wrote this song for.
