Hi, guys. I will review a short film entitle “Happiness”. What is happiness? you will find the answer after watching this film.




For everyone, the measure of happiness they have must be different. Some people consider material or money to be the main determinant of happiness, while some others don't think so. As told in this short film "Happiness", it turns out happiness is not only measured by material.

"Happiness" tells about a rat trying to find true happiness. According to Lyubomirsky (2007) , Happiness is the experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one’s life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile .In this short film portrayed human life with immeasurable ambitions which mostly comes down to finance .For some people, true happiness can be got with money but actually money is not everything even though everything needs money.Human life in "Happiness" is depicted exactly like rat that overtake each other to get a piece of cheese placed at one point somewhere. Every rat described competing in endless pursuit in an effort to fulfill financial interests. This short film successfully illustrates the unrest of rat who are never satisfied with everything that has been gained with money. For example, In the scene when a rat manages to buy a plasma TV which then immediately left its plasma TV for a parked Ferrari car, which then also become worthless after being trapped in a city jam.

Then, in “Happiness” is also illustrated various kinds of billboards that claim to sell happiness so the rat’s society will buy things they don’t really need. They think happiness will be got with those. Sadly, the rat still cannot find happiness because true happiness cannot be bought with money. True happiness can be got by peacefulness . It can be seen in the film after the rat drinks happiness capsule, he feels happy because he feels he is in the peaceful place.

“Happiness” indirectly describes the system of capitalism. This can be seen from many advertisements in this short film. All companies are competing to attract the attention of prospective customers. This is actually good for economic players because they will try to give their best presentation. But for consumers this can cause negative impacts such as accumulation of assets because they buy things that they don’t really need, excessive nature of individualism and lack of cooperation between fellow citizens.

In conclusion, from “Happiness” people can learn how to get true happiness. Happiness can be obtained every day, and there is no need to spend money trying to feel it because true happiness cannot be bought with money. Spend time with family and friends, read a good book, try something new, get freedom and healthy - these all bring true happiness, and may help someone discover why she/he seek to escape other feelings through material goods.
