Big Wave Beach
Spoiler for Banana Launcher:

Banana Launchers can fire explosive bananas at any tile on the lawn.
Level maks 10. Level 1=500. Level 2-3=475. Level 4-5=450. Level 6-7=425. Level 8=400. Level 9=375. Level 10=350
Compared to other controllable plants, Banana Launcher is special in that the player is given the freedom to launch his payload on any tile on the screen, regardless of any possible obstruction between the plant and the designated position, similar to Missile Toe and Holly Barrier. This makes Banana Launcher excellent for eliminating high threat targets such as Zombie Kings, Fisherman Zombies, and Imp Cannons that would normally be heavily protected. His main weaknesses are his massive 500 sun cost and his cooldown time between firing, which makes him an impractical choice in normal levels.
In Big Wave Beach, Banana Launcher can be used as an improvised countermeasure against Octo Zombies. Not only is it capable of neutralizing them before they can throw their octopi, if the player is fast enough, he can also destroy thrown octopi from anywhere and free the trapped plant. The latter is not recommended, however, as Banana Launcher takes much longer to recharge than the time taken for the Octo Zombie to throw another octopus, even when the zombie is slowed.
Banana Launcher's high damage capability makes him a powerful artillery weapon: Most high health zombies such as Knight Zombies, Blockhead Zombies, Mecha-Football Zombies, and Cavalry Zombies can only survive up to two bananas, while certain Gargantuars can take up to three. His projectile can not be deflected by any means, so Banana Launcher is effective against Jester Zombies and Parasol Zombies.
Another strategy is to use Banana Launcher with plants that can clump zombies together: Sweet Potato, Garlic, Chard Guard, Hurrikale and Thyme Warp are all capable of funneling or clumping the horde together, which allows Banana Launcher to hit more enemies. It's also a good idea to use blocking plants such as Tall-nuts and Primal Wall-nuts to give Banana Launcher time to recharge.
Arma-mint can be used to allow the Banana Launcher to reload every two seconds.
Modern Day
Spoiler for Moonflower:

Moonflowers radiate a glow that powers up adjacent Shadow plants.
Level maks 10. Level 1-9=50. Level 10=25
When fully powered, Moonflower is undoubtedly a powerful sun generator, as she gives as much sun as Twin Sunflower, plus she can be planted more easily in the early game. It should be noted, however, that she will give sun more slowly when planted away from other shadow plants, and when one is eaten or moved, it can immediately lower the sun production of other Moonflowers, so watch out for zombies like Prospector Zombies, pterodactyls, or Zombie Parrots. Also, take note that Moonflowers bound by Octo Zombie's octopi or turned into a sheep by Wizard Zombie will have their boosting aura removed until they are freed. Placing a 2x2 clump of Moonflowers will instantly power them all up - and it only costs 200 sun.
Moonflower is also a vital plant if the player is considering planting the other shadow plants (Nightshade, Shadow-shroom, Dusk Lobber, Grimrose, and Shadow Peashooter), as Moonflower's shadow field greatly improves their performance. So if the player is considering making the shadow plants their main offensives, plant Moonflowers on strategic tiles that make the aura reach the entire lawn.
However, Moonflower's greatest weakness is her poor Plant Food effect, which makes her a poor choice in the Endless Zone as the sun produced is not enough to quickly prepare a defense against the incoming horde. Using Gold Bloom with her would resolve this. Also, unlike Infi-nut, her force field is very weak and can only protect her lane. However, it, like Infi-nut's force field, cannot be burnt by Explorer Zombie's and Torchlight Zombie's torch. Excavator Zombie will have to destroy her force field before he can shovel her. Moonflower's force field will also effectively stop Fisherman Zombie's hook, preventing her from being pulled by him.
Spoiler for Nightshade:

Nightshades are shadow plants that smack zombies with slappy leaves.
Level maks 10. Level 1-8=75. Level 9-10=50
Nightshade's main strength is his high potential effectiveness for his fairly low price of 75 sun. When powered by Moonflower, a Nightshade can deal almost three times as much damage as an average Peashooter, and will, therefore, have little problem can make much quicker work of Basic and Buckethead Zombies. This ability could also be considered a downside, however, as Nightshade is heavily dependent on Moonflower which is a plant with a relatively slow recharge rate, and Nightshade's performance when not powered is below average due to him not being able to regrow his leaves. Nightshade also faces great challenges in the world he is introduced in, as the amount of methods used by the horde to deter straight-shooting projectiles, plus the sheer zombie density can render even the most powerful of single target plants insignificant. But player can plant it with Dusk Lobber because Dusk Lobber can do a splash damage to the zombies and Nightshade can more easily to kill them.
Spoiler for Shadow-shroom:

Shadow-shrooms poison zombies who eat them, inflicting damage over time.
Level maks 10. Level 1-6=50. Level 7-10=25
Shadow-shroom's main role in the player's arsenal is to counter armored enemies by bypassing their armor altogether and damage them directly. While Shadow-shroom's main advantage is its relatively fast recharge rate, it is ultimately not a stellar plant for its job as most other instant use plants of similar recharge rate such as Ghost Pepper and Lava Guava, as they can deal enough damage to render zombie armor not a significant issue. Shadow-shroom also receives a great weakness in its very poor effect radius, which is not addressed at all when powered due to the poison requiring zombies to be close together to spread. In addition, Shadow-shroom's low damage potential and lengthy time required to deal full damage makes it a poor choice against high health enemies without armor, in particular mechanical enemies and Gargantuars.
The player may find great value in Shadow-shroom's Plant Food ability: As it can poison every enemy on the screen, the Plant Food effect will make short work of all armored zombies. Dark Ages and Jurassic Marsh provide prime example of this, as Knight Zombies are frequent sights in the Dark Ages due to Zombie Kings, while the enemy composition in Jurassic Marsh is primarily consisted of armored zombies, meaning only Jurassic Bullies and Jurassic Gargantuars can survive the attack.
A powered Shadow-shroom can benefit from being paired with slowing plants, defensive plants, or speedy zombies. For example, Hurrikale or Chard Guard can knock the poisoned target back into the zombie crowd and spread the effect, while Garlic or Sweet Potato can be used to create choke points for Shadow-shroom to affect more enemies. Shadow-shroom is also a helpful plant for fighting Pharaoh Zombies and Newspaper Zombies, since it can neutralize them without breaking their armor and causing them to accelerate.
Avoid using Shadow-shroom against Jester Zombies while spinning as they're immune to the poison effect. Using Shadow-shroom on hordes of Zombie Chickens or Ice Weasels (unless fed with Plant Food or powered by Moonflower) are also a bad idea as only one Zombie Chicken or Ice Weasel can get poisoned since it's not Hypno-Shroom.
Spoiler for Dusk Lobber:

Dusk Lobbers are shadow plants that lob explosive buds down the lane.
Level maks 10. Level 1-6=150. Level 7-10=125
Dusk Lobber can be considered to be one of the most potent lobbed-shot plants, as the plant under the right conditions is only second to Strawburst in terms of splash damage per second while costing less than half the sun cost of a Melon-pult or a Strawburst. This makes Dusk Lobber an incredibly useful weapon in both normal levels and the Endless Zones, unlike most other heavy offensive plants which are often restricted by their usually high cost. The ability to attack multiple lanes also make Dusk Lobber highly useful early on, as this allows the player to secure the lawn quickly against Imp rushes or enemies on multiple lanes. This is, however, balanced by the plant's reliance on Moonflower, coupled with a mildly slow recharge rate. This means that Imitater will help the player field a decent amount of Dusk Lobbers in later levels, though you will always need Moonflower. Also, due to Moonflower's extremely lackluster Plant Food effect, it is advised to also bring Gold Bloom along.
Compared to most lobbed-shot plants, Dusk Lobber is even more useful at dealing with groups of enemies that can shield or avoid straight-shooting projectiles such as Tomb Raiser Zombie, Barrel Roller Zombie, Snorkel Zombie, Troglobite, and Arcade Zombie, including endless zones where these zombies are a common threat.
Surprisingly, a powered Dusk Lobber can also target Prospector Zombies that appear on the left side of your lawn and zombies carried by Pterodactyl if she is placed on the first column, including the lanes next to her.
Due to the nature of Shadow Peashooter's stalling effect which causes zombies to group together, it makes them significantly more vulnerable to Dusk Lobber's buds.
Dusk Lobber may seem more powerful compared to the straight-shot shadow plant, Nightshade, but each have their downsides - Nightshade deals a meager amount of group damage compared to Dusk Lobber and lacks crowd control, while Dusk Lobber's higher sun cost and slower recharge makes it harder for the player to get many of them out, and she is also much weaker against isolated targets or targets that absorb a lot of damage, such as Knight Zombie. As such, it might be advisable to bring both if one has enough seed slots when Moonflower is used. This weakness can also be fixed by bringing instant-kills such as Primal Potato Mine or Bombard-mint or plants which weaken the zombie health such as Shrinking Violet or Spear-mint.
Avoid using Dusk Lobber against Jester Zombie and Parasol Zombie, as they will deflect her buds.
Spoiler for Grimrose:

Grimroses are shadow plants that behave like landbound Tangle Kelps, dragging zombies into the dirt.
Level maks 10. Level 1-6=75. Level 7-10=50
While it is truly better than Tangle Kelps, since these can be used anywhere, its downside is the extra 50 sun needed for planting, and another 50 sun if a Moonflower is used along with this and its Plant Food ability, which only drags one zombie. It is also better than Tangle Kelp in terms of range and which zombie it drags. Also, it can drag zombies in the water, as long as you have a Lily Pad to plant it. The increased range and ability to drag more zombies can significantly increase it's usefulness in the long run.
Like with some instants like Ghost Pepper or Shrinking Violet, you have a short time to dig Grimrose up before it disappears. Try digging for refunded sun.
It is recommended to bring this plant with a Moonflower so you do not have to replant these all over again. You should also bring it with Shadow-shroom when you are playing La Brainsa Tarpits, as this combo can be useful. Shadow-shroom will poison and kill the headwear zombies while Grimrose can focus on damaging the Gargantuars or dragging down the Jurassic Bullies.
Aside from prioritizing the strongest zombies first, it can also drag the zombies behind it, making it useful against Imps thrown by Gargantuars, Zombie Bulls or kicked by All-Star Zombies; zombies carried by pterodactyls, launched by stegosauruses, or kicked by raptors; or Prospector Zombies that reach the back.
This is a great Gargantuar staller since it can only be smashed while dragging zombies down, and any zombie it tries to drag, will be immobilized.
It is not recommended to use this plant in Far Future as they require multiple drags to kill a mechanical enemy, as well as, they cannot drag a Jetpack Zombie or a Disco Jetpack Zombie.
Premium but need real money to unlock
Spoiler for Snow Pea:

Snow Peas fire frozen peas making it hard for zombies to advance.
Level maks 10. Level 1-5=150. Level 6-9=125. Level 10=100
While Snow Pea has received a slight buff in the form of a slightly reduced sun cost, overall the sequel has not been generous to the plant himself: Firstly, the increased amount of enemies that can block or deflect direct shots now poses a serious challenge to Snow Pea as well as other peashooting plants. Secondly, the fact that Snow Pea is placed along with other more effective slowing solutions in the premium shop means that the plant is more likely to be ignored if the player desires for the ability to suppress the incoming horde. All is not lost however, as the player might still find some use from Snow Pea in his long range and its ability to extinguish Explorer Zombie's and Torchlight Zombie's torch, along with Prospector Zombie's dynamite stick.
Spoiler for Power Lily:

Power Lilies create one Plant Food out of thin air.
Level maks 10. Level 1-3=175. Level 4-6=150. Level 7-9=125. Level 10=100
Only use Power Lilies in higher stages if there are few or no zombies that provide Plant Food.
Power Lilies are best used in the Endless Zones, especially after level 30, as the zombies may only drop one or two Plant Food during a level. Plant Food is very helpful for getting tons of sun by using it on Twin Sunflowers, freezing all the zombies with an Iceberg Lettuce, buttering all the zombies with a Kernel-pult, or summoning a deadly melon hail with a Winter Melon. Other than that, the player can also use it by selecting the Power Lily and its duplicate to replenish Plant Food because of Plant Food scarcity on higher levels and as well as on higher zombie concentrations. Since its recharge is very slow, you can also use Imitater to help boost the number of Plant Food you get. Without them, the player is forced to use Power Ups in some situations where in killing any zombies getting close to the Player's House is almost impossible.
Spoiler for Torchwood:

Torchwoods turn peas that pass through them into fireballs that deal twice as much damage.
Level maks 10. Level 1=175. Level 2-3=150. Level 4-5=125. Level 6-7=100. Level 8-9=75. Level 10=50
Torchwood is weakened in this game, as he no longer deals splash damage with or without Plant Food, making him completely useless against massive groups of zombies that come early on in the stage. It is also difficult to set up as every lane must have a Torchwood and a Repeater on it, and setting this up will cause zombies to slip past your defenses easily while you are concentrating on a lane. You can use higher sun producing plants to speed up the process, or together with Power Lily. Only use it when you have 2 or more peashooting plants in a lane, as then its cost will be worth it.
Sap-fling and Stallia can slow down zombies, even if they are in contact with fire, so these plants can help Torchwood against strong zombies like Pharaoh Zombies and Gargantuars.
A Plant Food fed Torchwood can deal massive damage, especially with a maxed out Pea Pod as the plasma fire triples damage. It is very hard and risky to pull off correctly; nonetheless, when done well, this setup can easily counter high zombie densities, and this also helps a lot when battling against Octo Zombies, as the plasma peas can defeat the octopi very quickly. They also can help against the zombies in Terror from Tomorrow, but keep in mind that the high health of Robo-Cone Zombie, Disco-tron 3000, Mecha-Football Zombie, and the force field created by the Shield Zombie will absorb a lot of fire peas. It is highly suggested that you bring Citrons, Sap-flings or E.M.Peaches along with Torchwood to stun the zombies, or Blover to deal with Disco Jetpack Zombies blocking the peas.
Torchwood is also a very effective plant in Frostbite Caves as fire has numerous advantages in this ice themed world. When planted on any tile, he produces heat in a 3x3 area, preventing the surrounding plants from freezing or melting their ice blocks. He will also produce heat four times more often if he is fed Plant Food, giving him an advantage over other thawing plants.
Note: Avoid using Torchwoods when you see Jester Zombies, Explorer Zombies, Imp Dragon Zombies, and Excavator Zombies, as Jester Zombies can deflect fire peas, fire peas can relight Explorer Zombie's torch, Imp Dragon Zombies are immune to all fire damage (including flaming peas) and Excavator Zombies block all straight-shooting projectiles.
