The free-to-play title set in the Titanfall universe officially launched last night, after developer Respawn’s surprise announcement was botched by early leaks. Posting on Twitter, Respawn boss Vince Zampella, wrote: ‘I’m so overwhelmed right now, @PlayApex broke a million unique players in under 8 hours.’ ‘Thank you so much for showing up and being part of this with @Respawn you are amazing!!’

But despite being set in the same universe, Apex Legends doesn’t feature some of Titanfall’s key mechanics – such as the giant mechs (Titans) and wall-running. The latter is perhaps the most jarring omission for many Titanfall veterans, with Zampella revealing why they decided to cut the feature from the game. ‘Wasn’t as fun and balanced. We’ll try new stuff as we go’, he told a fan on Twitter.

Whether this means some type of wall-running could be implemented in the future is unclear, but Respawn has already promised to update the title over the time with new Legends (characters), weapons, and seasonal content.
