The latest addition to the company’s already extensive product range, the CAR 816 embraces 21st century concepts in ergonomics, design and manufacturing techniques. Based on the widely used M16/ M4 system, the CAR 816 is a gas-operated piston system with a rotary bolt mechanism in the 5.56x45mm NATO calibre. The new weapon is available in three different barrel lengths and is also equipped with standard interfaces for the pistol grip and butt stock, providing users with the highest modularity. The barrel is of cold-forged chromium molybdenum steel with optional chrome plate inside the upper and lower receiver, as well as the hand guard, each made of high-strength aluminium. Caracal’s current product range includes full-, compact- and subcompact-sized pistols, as well as 9mm carbines and sniper rifles in various calibres. In addition it offers a wide range of accessories for its products such as key-locks, quick-loaders and specially designed sight systems. To ensure that its customer’s needs are met, Caracal provides basic and advanced tactical shooting training and also carries out turnkey weapons maintenance services.

Caracal International, the UAE’s leading small arms manufacturer and subsidiary of Tawazun, Abu Dhabi’s strategic defence investment company, has revealed thelatest addition to its extensive UAE-made product range at the 2013 International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX). The Caracal Assault Rifle (CAR) 816 is modern and embraces 21st Century concepts in ergonomics, design and manufacturing techniques.
The CAR 816 is based on the famous M16 / M4 system. It is a gas operated piston system with a rotary bolt mechanism in the caliber 5.56x45mm NATO. The CAR 816 is available in three different barrel lengths (10”, 14.5” and 16”,with others on request). It is also equipped with standard interfaces for the pistol grip and the butt stock, which allows the customer the highest modularity. The barrel is Chrome lined, cold hammer forged chromolybdenum steel. The upper & lower receiver are built from high grade aircraft aluminum. The CAR816 is a modular assault rifle, which finds its use in all combat situations.
The current Caracal International product range includes: full, compact and sub-compact size pistols; 9mm carbines; and sniper rifles in various calibers. In addition, Caracal offers a wide range of accessories for its products such as key-locks, quick-loaders and special designed sight systems. Caracal carries out turnkey weapon maintenance services, and provides basic and advanced tactical shooting training to ensure its customers’ small arms needs are met.
Caracal has three subsidiaries to serve its increasing customer base. In the spring of 2011< Caracal established Caracal GMBH, which is based in Suhl, Germany. In October 2011, Caracal signed an agreement with the Algerian public industrial commercial establishment, Mechanical Constructions Establishment (ECMK). The joint venture, Caracal Algerie, is based in the city of Khenchela. The third subsidiary, Caracal USA, was created in January 2012 and has since, secured agreements with US distributors with a goal to sell 10,000 of its premium pistols annually in the US market. Being able to export home-grown technological know-how into another market within a short space of time is a big achievement for Caracal. Company officials commented that it is a credit to the UAE’s development that defense products made in the UAE are becoming rapidly synonymous with innovative design and high quality.

Caracal International LLC is a subsidiary of the United Arab Emirates company, Tawazun Holding. They have introduced a new AR-style weapon at DSEi. Overall, the lines of the carbine are a little different than what you would find on a US-issue M4 and more in line with what we are seeing with more modern extrapolations of the design.

Named the CAR 816, this piston gun is available in 10″, 14.5″ and 16″ configurations. The adjustable gas port has four settings, Normal, Silencer Hi, Silencer Lo, and Off. It also incorporates a few nice-to-haves. For instance, as you can see rail incorporates a quick release to facilitate breaking it down. Additionally, you can see the flared magwell on the lower receiver.

The grip is a rubberized variant of the USGI grip. Additionally, the break down pins are dimpled, making it easier to use a cartridge or ink pen to break the weapon down.

The nitride bolt design is slightly different than a non-mil spec design owing to the piston operating system and the magazine catch is available in an ambidextrous configuration.

Finally, the CAR 618 features a 1:7 twist Barrel in Cr-Mo nitrided steel.
