Apa itu EJU ?
EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) adalah ujian yang dilaksanakan guna mengukur kemampuan Bahasa Jepang dan kemampuan bidang-bidang akademis dasar yang diperlukan di universitas di Jepang bagi mereka yang berminat belajar di lembaga pendidikan tinggi di Jepang sebagai mahasiswa asing.
EJU adalah ujian pengganti dari 2 jenis ujian yang selama ini pernah diwajibkan untuk diikuti oleh berbagai universitas (tingkat undergraduate) dan berbagai lembaga pendidikan tinggi lainnya di Jepang sebagai ujian masuk, yaitu General Examination for Foreign Student (telah dihapuskan hingga pelaksaan terakhirnya bulan Desember 2001) dan Japanese Language Proficiency Test. EJU akan dilaksanakan mulai tahun 2002 sebanyak 2 kali (Juni dan November) di Jepang dan di luar Jepang.
Di Indonesia EJU dilaksanakan di 2 tempat, untuk wilayah timur di IMC Surabaya dan untuk di wilayah barat di Pusat Studi Jepang, Universitas Indonesia.
Mata ujian dalam EJU meliputi Japanese as a Foreign Language, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Japan & the World, dan Mathematics. Ujian ditempuh dengan memilih mata ujian berdasarkan petunjuk dari setiap universitas di Jepang. Selain itu, bahasa pengantar ujian terdiri dari Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Jepang yang bisa dipilih pada saat pendaftaran (kecuali mata ujian Japanese as a Foreign Language hanya tersedia dalam Bahasa Jepang saja).
Untuk mengetahui lembaga pendidikan tinggi yang memakai hasil EJU sebagai bahan seleksi masuk bagi mahasiswa asingnya, silakan lihat dalam "Daftar Universitas Pemakai EJU". Dalam daftar tsb tercantum pula mata ujian yang harus ditempuh dan bahasa pengantar yang harus dipilih yang telah ditentukan oleh setiap universitas.
Selain itu, banyak pula universitas yang memakai hasil EJU ini sebagai materi utama dalam menentukan kelulusan penerimaan mahasiswa asingnya. Tetapi ini bukan berarti bahwa EJU adalah ujian masuk universitas yang dilaksanakan secara khusus oleh setiap universitas, melainkan hasil EJU ini yang digabungkan dengan hasil studi SLTA dsb akan dipertimbangkan sebagai materi untuk penerimaan di suatu universitas. Sehingga dengan menggunakan sistem ini, calon mahasiswa asing tidak perlu datang ke Jepang untuk mengikuti ujian masuk universitas. Calon mahasiswa asing tsb bisa tetap tinggal di negaranya sendiri dan bisa mengetahui lulus-tidaknya dalam suatu penerimaan di suatu universitas yang diminatinya.

At the time of taking the examination the examinee must choose whether to take Course 1 or Course 2; the examinee should follow the instructions given by the university or the department to which he is applying.
The topics covered by the examination are listed below. The symbols are the ones used in Japanese high school text books; the English version of the test uses standard English terms, and the Japanese version of the test uses terms used in Japanese high school text books.
