When it came to malware detection and removal, Norton Antivirus put out strong all-around scores. Norton Antivirus detected 98.7 percent of malware samples using traditional signature-based malware detection. This is an above average score, but it trails Panda Antivirus Pro 2011, which detected 99.8 percent of samples.

Norton also put up excellent scores in the blocking of real-world malware attacks: Norton completely blocked 24 of the 25 samples we threw at it, but it did miss one sample completely. Norton also detected all active infections in our tests; it removed the active components of an infection 80 percent of the time, and was able to completely remove the infections 60 percent of the time--both above-average scores.

Norton put up good scores in our speed testing, but not top-notch results. It completed an on-access scan of 4.5GB of files in 4 minutes, 32 seconds. This puts it ahead of the average of 4 minutes, 59 seconds, but but it behind the top-performing product, which completed this test in 3 minutes, 35 seconds. Its on-demand scan speed of 2 minutes, one second is also above average, but again, it trails the top performing program by a good 30 seconds.

Norton 2013 Beta Build 20.1.0.18
We have new Public Beta builds of Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, and Norton 360 available through LiveUpdate!

Build 20.1.0.18 has been posted on the LiveUpdate servers and is now available!

To access the new build, simply run LiveUpdate from your Norton Beta Product. You will see a few updates download and apply. Keep running LiveUpdate until it asks you to apply the patch to the updated build. Once you apply the patch, you will be running the new build.

(Note: Windows XP and Windows Vista users will be required to reboot the computer after the patch is applied in order to use the new build)

Please note that you must have build 20.1.0.9 to receive the update to build 20.1.0.18. Click on Support from the Main User Interface and About to verify your installed version.

If you need to download build 20.1.0.9 so that you can LiveUpdate to the new patch, simply navigate to Norton Beta Center, select Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, or Norton 360, and then download the product.

Please note: This new build (20.1.0.18) is only available through LiveUpdate.

Your current beta test subscription will be carried over if you preformed a LiveUpdate. You will have the opportunity to Renew the subscription for an additional 14 days when the product is about to expire, or fully expires. Please note: each beta subscription can only be renewed for an additional 14 days once.

To verify you have the latest build, please launch the Norton Product Main User Interface, click Support on the top right side, and select About. The version number should read 20.1.0.18:
