• The Water Margin (1972) - produced by Shaw Brothers. It was directed by Chang Cheh, Wu Ma and Pao Hsueh Li, and starred David Chiang, Ti Lung and Chen Kuan Tai
  
• All Men Are Brothers (1975) - a sequel to the 1972 film.
  
• All Men Are Brothers: Blood Of The Leopard also known as Water Margin: True Colors of Heroes (1992) - starred Tony Leung Ka-Fai. It centered on the stories of Lin Chong, Lu Zhishen and Gao Qiu.
  
• Troublesome Night 16 (2002) - a Hong Kong horror-comedy film. Two men are transported back in time to the Song Dynasty period and they encounter Wu Song, Song Jiang, Yan Qing and Lu Zhishen from Water Margin. The film parodies the story of Wu Song avenging his brother, and the two men play important roles in affecting how the story unfolds.
  

• The Water Margin (1973) - produced by Nippon Television. It was filmed in mainland China in 1973. It starred Atsuo Nakamura and Kei Sato in the lead roles. It was broadcast on TV in other countries.
  
• Giant Robo: The Animation (1992) - some locations and characters from the novel appeared in Mitsuteru Yokoyama's anime. Yokoyama had previously published a Manga adaptation of the novel.
  
• The Water Margin (1997) - a production by CCTV with Zhang Jizhong as executive producer and Yuen Woo-Ping as action choreographer.
  
• Outlaw Star (1998) - a 26 episode anime series that has several refences to the novel. The show's title itself is a reference to the novel.
  
• Shades of Truth (2004) - a 25 episodes TV series produced by TVB. It is mostly unrelated to the novel and is featured in a present-day setting, with some characters as reincarnations of the Liangshan heroes.
  
• Hero:108 (2008) - a 26 episodes half-hour flash animated series produced by Mike Young Productions, Gamania Digital Entertainment, Cartoon Network, Telegael and Hong Ying. The series is expected to be released around the world on Cartoon Network in 2010.
  
• Water Margin (upcoming 2010) - directed by Kuk Kwok Leung.
  

• Qing Dynasty author Qian Cai intertwined the life stories of Yue Fei and the outlaws Lin Chong and Lu Junyi in The Story of Yue Fei (1684). He stated that the latter were former students of the general's martial arts tutor, Zhou Tong.
  
• Frank Chin's novel, Donald Duk, contains many references to the Water Margin. Song Jiang and Li Kui make several appearances in the protagonist's dreams.
  
• Two characters in the popular Japanese novel series Saiunkoku Monogatari, Shi Seiran and Rou Ensei, have histories vaguely resembling those of Chai Jin and Yan Qing. They are nicknamed "Small Whirlwind" and "King of the Staff".
  
• A Hong Kong comic series was also created by the Manhua artist Li Zhiqing.
  
• Eiji Yoshikawa wrote Shin Suikoden (新水滸伝), which roughly translates to "New Tales from the Water Margin".
  

• The Water Margin is referred to in numerous Japanese Manga, such as Tetsuo Hara and Buronson's Hokuto no Ken, and Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya. In both works of fiction, characters bearing the same stars of the Water Margin characters as personal emblems of destiny are featured prominently.
  
• Recently, a Japanese manga called Akaboshi-Ibun Suikoden has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump based on the story of Water Margin.
  
• Between 1978 and 1988, the Italian artist Magnus published four acts of his work, I Briganti, which places the Water Margin story in a science fiction setting. Before his death in 1996, the four completed "acts" were published in volume by Granata Press; two following "acts" were planned but never completed.
  

• The novel inspired the Japanese console role-playing game series Gensou Suikoden by Konami.
  
• A character named "The Black Whirlwhind" in the RPG Jade Empire is inspired by Li Kui.
  
• A military strategy game by Koei, called Bandit Kings of Ancient China is one of the oldest video game adaptations of the novel.
  
• Data East released a fighting game which was known under three different titles. Suiko Enbu in Japan, Outlaws Of The Lost Dynasty in the U.S. and Dark Legend on the American Sega Saturn. The game's characters are inspired by the Water Margin.
  
• The popular MMORPG 9Dragons has characters based on those in Water Margin
