LANDMAN

Duties:
Responsible for the acquisition, maintenance,
development, and negotiations of property rights to land
(including offshore underground deposits) to be used in
the search for, and extraction of, natural resources

Alternate Title(s):Petroleum Landman, Right-of-Way
Agent

Salary Range US: $65,000 to $100,000 or more
Salary Range Indo: -

Prerequisites:
Education or Training—High school degree required;
bachelor’s degree in business or petroleum land management
preferred
Experience—One to three years of experience in the
petroleum industry, preferably in training for in-house
corporate Landman position
Special Skills and Personality Traits—Ability to work
well with other departments and handle many projects
simultaneously; business background recommended;
excellent communication and interpersonal talents; good
computer, math, and researching abilities; legal knowledge;
skilled in negotiation
Special Requirements—Certification as Professional
Landman often necessary

Tips for Entry :
1. During high school, consider a summer job (or parttime
work) in a machine shop to get familiar with
handling machinery, related equipment, and machine
tools, as well as working within a business environment.
2. Investigate potential internship programs in the oil
and gas industry to become knowledgeable about the
production processes and technologies with which
you will have to work.
3. Any experience you can gain in repairing machinery,
such as cars, will be valuable as performing routine
maintenance on vehicles and equipment will be an
important part of your job as a Pumper.
