Launched in 2008, The R15 was Yamaha’s way of bringing affordable performance to the masses. The bike got a major exterior upgrade in 2011, and became even more inspired from bigger siblings such as the R6. The motorcycle brings in good number of sales each month, selling close to 2000 units even now. However increase in competition from Honda (who will launch an upgraded CBR150r) and local manufacture’s like Bajaj has now pushed Yamaha in to developing the new bike, which is frankly long over due.

Yamaha fans across the country have just got another reason to rejoice, as the manufacturer is heard to be working on a new version to their popular YZF-R15, codenamed BG7. Previously, Yamaha had confirmed that they will launch their much awaited 320cc offering-the YZF-R3 in India on August 11, 2015.

Mechanically, The Yamaha R15 V2.0 is powered by a 149.8cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC single-cylinder mill producing 17 PS of power at 8500rpm and 15 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The power is expected to be bumped up 1 or 2 PS on the Yamaha R15 V3. The bike is currently priced at 1.14 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
