Singapore to acquire new H225M, CH-47F helicopters from Airbus and Boeing
9 November 2016
The Singapore Ministry of Defence has awarded contracts to Airbus Helicopters and Boeing to supply the H225M medium lift helicopter and CH-47F heavy lift helicopter respectively.
The new helicopters will replace the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) existing Super Pumas and Chinooks, which have been operational since 1983 and 1994 respectively.
With better lift and reach capabilities, acquisition of the H225M and CH-47F will enable the RSAF to meet the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) lift requirements for a broad range of operations.
The operations include search and rescue (SAR), aeromedical evacuation (AME) and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).
Singapore selected the replacement aircraft following an evaluation process.
Boeing’s CH-47F contains an integrated, digital cockpit management system and is a new multi-mission helicopter for the US Army and international defence forces.
It also comprises common aviation architecture cockpit and cargo-handling capabilities that complement the aircraft's performance as well as handling characteristics.
The 11t H225M helicopter of Airbus has been designed for demanding missions and its durability has been demonstrated in combat conditions and crisis areas including Lebanon, Afghanistan, Chad, Ivory Coast, Central African Republic, Somalia and Mali.
Countries such as France, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand rely on H225M to support their demanding missions.
This helicopter was formerly known as the EC725 and is the latest member of Airbus’ military Super Puma/Cougar family.
