Reclaim Australia rally: anti-Islam protesters fear blood will be spilt

FAR right activists have started arriving at an anti immigration protest in Melbourne, where protesters and police have clashed.

Several scuffles have broken out and police were forced to charge on horseback and deploy pepper spray to keep the peace.

Several people have required treatment.

About 200 members from the Patriot Defence League have started their rally in Spring St near Parliament House.

They are being watched by about 3000 members from the No Room For Racism group.

A heavy police presence is keeping the two groups apart with both sides containing a violent element.

Masked Left wing activists moved on mass from Bourke St through several backstreets to reach Spring St, taking police by surprise.

An uneasy calm has now emerged in Spring St with neither side willing to back down and end its rally early.

About 800 police are on duty in the city in an extensive police operation.

Up to 4000 people supportive of Islam and immigration began rallying at 10am at Spring St.

There were ugly confrontations when the two groups met in April at Federation Square, the last time Reclaim Australia urged its supporters to take their anti-Islam message to the streets.

Members from the more hard line United Patriots Front, including a bus load of protesters from Sydney, will begin its rally at 1pm.

Two Nazi sympathisers were earlier today removed from a Patriots bus after they were overheard expressing anti-Semitic sentiments.

Police were asked to help in their forced removal.

Prior to the rally there were threats of violence from both groups online.

One post on the United Patriots Front Facebook page warned the group to expect a violent welcome.

“UPF I hope you all have private health insurance because there’s thousands of lefties ready to krack some skulls today,” the person wrote.

“With only a few hundred of you I think your blood will be spilt all over government house.

“And if you talk the talk you better walk the walk and at least put on some kind of a punch on.

“Because you’re going there for a fight so big hits, punches, haymakers and stomps into the ground are the call for the day.

“You called a fight now let’s see one.”

Patriots members responded with equal venom.

“It’s Reclaim Australia Day my UPF brothers & sisters!!!!!,” another person posted.

“Wake the f#ck up and prepare for our day of glory!!!

“Remain vigilant, stay strong and most of all look after your brother and sister patriots around you!!!

“We are all Aussies and nobody can take that away from us.

“This is our time to shine ... this is for our children !!!!!”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman declined to comment ahead of the protests, but indicated a large police presence would be visible and anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated.

Reclaim Australia will also rally in Adelaide today, and in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and other regional centres tomorrow.
