Dutch authorities intend to sell the remaining 15 Leopard 2 tanks, which are available to the Ministry of Defence. The Dutch authorities have still not decided on restoring the capacity of the army in the use of basic tanks and fifteen other vehicles of this type is offered for sale.
In the days of the Cold War, the Dutch have acquired a total of 445 Leopard tanks 2. Part vehicles of this type was modernized version A5 and A6. During operation, the tanks also made purchases of modern sub-caliber ammunition type DM-63. Dutch Leopards, however, were gradually sold, among other things, to Norway and Canada. After the withdrawal of tanks from the last active service at the beginning of last year concluded a contract for the sale of 100 machines of this type to Finland.
The process of withdrawing tanks from the Netherlands illustrates the basic limitation of conventional capabilities, which takes place in Europe, among others, as a result of budget cuts. The Dutch army had since back in the 90s 445 leopards 2 and 97 leopards 1 [1]. The mere number of third-generation tanks, acquired (and withdrawn from service) by the Netherlands is higher than the target number of primary tanks in active Army units in France and Germany, according to current assumptions
