'Shame on Team Australia' - Did Man Monis' Twitter hint at Sydney siege?

A disturbing picture is emerging of the crazed gunman at the centre of Sydney's fatal siege.

Postings on self-proclaimed Sheikh Man Haron Monis' social media accounts and website, which have, with the exception of Twitter, been deleted, allude to his extremist state-of-mind.



It's also clear he didn't see himself as a terrorist.




Now confirmed dead, the 50-year-old was a self-styled radical Iranian Muslim on bail, accused of being an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife. Monis had an extensive criminal history.

On December 14, the day before he took at least 17 hostages, Monis posted an ominous message on his website:

"Islam is the religion of peace, that's why Muslims fight against the oppression and terrorism of USA and its allies including UK and Australia.

If we stay silent towards the criminals we cannot have a peaceful society. The more you fight with crime, the more peaceful you are.

"Islam wants peace on the Earth, that's why Muslims want to stop terrorism of America and its allies.

When you speak out against crime you have taken one step towards peace."

During the hostage crisis, one of Monis' demands was an Islamic State flag. It's not yet known if he was acting alongside the group or as an individual.
