Lara has changed since the events of 2013's Tomb Raider.

Set after Tomb Raider, Lara Croft's experience of the supernatural on Yamatai has been covered up by the organization Trinity. In order to prove she is not insane Lara becomes obsessed with finding the truth behind myths around the world. Rise of the Tomb Raider follows Lara Croft and Jonah Maiava as they search Siberia for the ancient city Kitezh, built by the Grand Prince of Vladimir in the 13th century, which Lara believes holds some truth behind immortality. In a race against Trinity, a well funded organization interested in the supernatural, Lara must survive against humans, animals, and the environment in order to find the truth behind the myths and become who she was destined to be. Gameplay
The game will feature a crafting system, allowing players to create items by scavenging materials from plants and animals in the game's harsh environment.

The in-game environment will include a weather system that both human and animal characters can react to and a day-night cycle. For example, to create a hardier winter coat Lara must hunt a wolf which only comes out during a specific time of day and specific weather condition. Lara can swim which will add to Lara's mobility and combat tactics.

Combat has been redesigned with more options for stealth and sneak attacks. Lara can confuse enemies using the environment, hide behind bushes or in trees, or avoid combat altogether by climbing trees or traveling across roof tops. The bow and arrow return from Tomb Raider. Options for multiple bows can be fashioned from specific animals and materials that Lara can hunt and salvage. Other weapons such as her pistol and climbing axe make a return, plus an added hunting knife for melee or sneak attacks. Wikipedia

The gameplay is similar to the previous game, however there are many new mechanics and abilities added.The game is expected to require 30-40 hours to reach 100% completion.

Combat
Lara now has access to multiple weapons of different types, such as bows, pistols. All can be changed according to the players preference. Salvage is once again used to upgrade weapons. See below

Melee combat has been added too. Lara now has access to a knife, and can tackle enemies, as well as drop on them from trees. If the knife is not accessed yet during the main story, Lara can jump from above and tackle the opponent and finish them off with a deadly punch or a slice from her climbing axes.

Lara's health no longer auto regenerates. Severe injuries will need to be treated with bandages, made from salvaged cloth.

Swimming returns to the franchise, having been absent since Tomb Raider Underworld. The breath bar does not retain its appearance, however.

Stealth has been revamped, as Lara can now hide from animals as well as humans. Lara can also climb trees and hide in foliage to avoid detection by enemies. Lara can hide underwater to perform stealth takedowns, Lara can also hide in trees.

Platforming has returned from the previous games as well, with Lara able to shimmy across ledges and jump from ledge to ledge as well as jumping from a flat wall and climbable surfaces for Lara's climbing axes. In addition to this, Lara is also given a wire spool for grappling, a mechanic that returns to the franchise after being absent since Tomb Raider Underworld. She can also use different arrow types in platforming like using flame or grenade arrows to blow down entrances, rope arrows to pull down levers or ladders, and climbing arrows. Lara can shoot climbing arrows on walls to stand on them and grab a higher ledge or jump on another climbing arrow.

Salvage

Salvage is once again used to upgrade weapons, However, now Lara will have to collect specific materials around the environment such as deer skin, to craft certain items/upgrades. Some materials can only be found in exotic destinations, at a specific time of the day and possibly in specific parts of the destination. Salvage does not contain many for in the previous game, salvage contained more than at least 9 pieces but in this game, salvage contains 1-4 pieces.

Clothing
Crystal Dynamics have stated, that clothing will play an important aspect to the game, as different garments will allow for different perks, and bonuses. Garments will be unlockable during the story, can be bought in-game, unlocked by doing certain challenges or bonuses, and some are DLC and can be accessed in the Xbox Live Marketplace(bwt pc belum tau emoticon-Malu

Lara will have access to more weapons, based on Player preference, each can be switched, instead of being locked as soon as the upgraded version. Each weapon will have it's own upgrades to be unlocked.
