Description:
The System Administrator will be responsible for managing various linux (mainly CentOS and Ubuntu) and windows servers utilized by our company and our clients company remotely. This involves maintenance, updates, scripting, and research into technologies that could be brought in to improve our operation and take it to the next level.


Responsibilities:
Configure, manage, update, troubleshoot, and maintain computer servers running Windows and Linux operating system.
Develop and maintain documentation covering the implementation, troubleshooting and management of Windows and Linux servers.
Work with the software development/engineering team to deploy/release software updates to our cloud infrastructure.
Monitor ongoing security threats and apply security updates in timely manner
Participate in technology discussion related to the company on-going strategic initiatives, routine technology updates and standardize system configuration.


Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional server administration experience
  
• excellent verbal and written communication skills (English skill preferable)
  
• Experience managing: Linux Operating System, LNMP stack, Windows operating system, Active Directory, MS Exchange
  
• In-depth knowledge server/system security and security best practice
  
• Knowledge of automated server administration using chef/puppet
  
• Knowledge of one or more server scripting using BASH/Perl/Python or Ruby
  
• Have a passion for server/system security
  

Desirable:

• Experience managing cloud infrastructure/system with XenServer
  
• Experience working with Amazon Web Service
  
• Knowledge of DNS Administration
  
• Experience optimizing LNMP stack
  
• Possess Professional qualification: MCP/MCSA/RHCE/MCTS
  
• Working Knowledge of network planning/administration
  
• Knowledge of version control, especially GIT, is a plus

Please answer the following questions:

1. What are the differences between VPS, virtual cloud server, and dedicated server?
   
2. What are the differences between private cloud, public cloud and hybrid cloud? Which one is Amazon Web Service belong to?
   
3. If you have an option of virtualization with Xen, KVM and OpenVZ, what would you recommend, and why? What virtualization is being used by Amazon Web Service?
   
4. If I have a domain name 'example.com' and I want to set www.example.com to alias example.com and example.com to have an ip address of 12.34.56.77, and the domain have a primary primary mail server at 12.34.56.78 and secondary mail server at 12.34.56.79, and the email should only be sent from the mail servers and the web server (12.34.56.77), what is the BIND config file looks like?
   
5. In Linux, what mail agent, spam filter and anti virus do you normally use, and why?
   
6. I have a firewall, a load balancer behind it, and two servers to serve http traffic behind the load balancer, please draw the network diagram.
   
7. What ports should I open to make sure that the http traffic and SSH works in the setup above? Where would I need to check to ensure that this port is opened? How would I add this port to allow rules using IPTable?
   
8. Discuss what do you do if your server is under DDOS attack?
   
9. What tools would you recommend to monitor 10 linux servers in one place (uptime, cpu utilization, network utilization, etc …), and why would you recommend it?
   
10. If you were to write a script for automation, what language would you use? Why would you use that language? What are some system tasks that you usually automate?
    
11. Would you like to take some training/certification? What are those and why you think it will help your work as system/server administrator?
    
12. How Amazon EC2 is different than Amazon S3, Amazon ELB, Amazon CloudFront and Amazon Route53?
    
13. Can you replicate MySQL from Amazon AWS? How would you replicate MySQL database for high availability?
