Rap sheet, not spreadsheet, for accounting student

By BEAU DONELLY: bdonelly@mmpgroup.com.au Feb. 11, 2013, 11 a.m.

AN accounting student, twice arrested for theft in the past three months, could have his student visa revoked if convicted when he faces court on March 6.

Police believe the 24-year-old Indonesian, who allegedly stole two wallets from the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Albert Park, could be responsible for a spate of thefts there. At least 10 wallets have gone missing since November.

Police found the man on November 6 after a victim reported his wallet stolen from near the basketball court. An audit of the victim's bank statement led police to a York Street brothel where a man was arrested for theft and obtaining financial advantage by deception. "He'd gone in, booked himself a session, paid for it on the credit card and then booked himself another session for 9.30pm the same day," claimed Constable Jimmy Nguyen. "He kept saying: 'You guys are so quick'."

The man was arrested again last month and charged over another wallet theft from MSAC, allegedly committed on January 12. The man allegedly used a stolen credit card to buy clothing and shoes online.

Police crosschecked the shipping details and recognised the man from his Facebook picture.

They executed a warrant on his St Kilda Road apartment on Thursday, January 24.

"He was stunned to see me when he answered his door," said Mr Nguyen.
