[OFFICIAL THREAD] IP MAN: Final Battle,’ starring Anthony Wong,Jordan Chan,Eric Tsang
‘Ip Man: Final Battle,’ starring Anthony Wong (2013)
First, there was Ip Man 1 and 2, directed by Wilson Yip and starring Donnie Yen; Then came the unrelated tale (to Yip’s films) of Legend Is Born: Ip Man, directed by Herman Lau and starring Dennis To; And coming to Chinese theaters in December 18, 2012, will be Wong Kar-Wai’s The Grandmasters – also unrelated - starring Tony Leung; Currently in the works is Ip Man 3D, which reunites Yip and Yen for the third and final chapter of their Ip Man story.
Get ready for a sixth Ip Man film called Ip Man: Final Battle (aka Ip Man: Final Fight or Ip Man The Final Chapter). So far, here’s what we know about it: It’s being directed by Herman Yau, but there’s no word if it’s an official continuation to his Legend Is Born: Ip Man or just another unrelated tale. This time around, Anthony Wong (Beast Cops) will be taking on the role of Ip Man, playing him from age 40 to his passing in 1972. Wong supposedly studied Wing Chun for a year to prepare for his role and has dropped some serious poundage (see photo) in the process.
Ip Man: Final Battle stars Anita Yuen Wing Yi (Thunderbolt), who will be playing Ip Man’s wife. According to the promo poster, Jordan Chan (Enter the Eagles) and Eric Tsang (Gen X Cops) also appear. The character of Bruce Lee will be featured, but his part is still currently being cast. Production on Ip Man: Final Battle is set to begin in August.
Updates: In addition to all the Ip Man projects above, there is also an Ip Man TV series in the works. The TV series will be directed and written by Fan Xiaotian. Zhang Tan, the writer of Once Upon a Time in China will serve as the executive producer and script editor. Tan states that the Ip Man TV series will not only be about Ip Man, but will also explore the history of Chinese martial arts in general. Ip Man’s real-life sons, Ip Chun and Ip Ching, will serve as the martial arts consultants. At this time, the lead actor who will play Ip Man for the TV series has not been determined.
According to Chinese Films, Ip Man: The Final Battle is set in Hong Kong, [Anthony] Wong, who plays the middle-aged Ip Man, and his five pupils battle the local bully. We assume one of those five pupils is a young Bruce Lee.
BREAKING NEWS: Don’t miss the action-packed trailer, which features a fight between Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang(!). What do you think, does Anthony Wong have what it takes to be Ip Man?
