Tony Sly, frontman for the long-running punk group No Use For A Name, was found dead today at 41. No cause of death has been revealed.
Since joining in 1989, Sly released nine full-length albums with the band, as well several EPs and various solo projects. Among them was Scorpios, which featured members of Lagwagon and Drag The River. No Use For a Name—which formed in 1987 in San Jose, California—was one of the torchbearers of an early-'90s punk-rock movement that saw the genre brought into the mainstream, largely thanks to its California contemporaries Green Day, Rancid, and NOFX.
Fat Mike, NOFX frontman and owner of Fat Wreck Chords—which released all of No Use For A Name's albums, through 2008's The Feel Good Record Of The Year—issued a statement on Sly's death, saying, "One of my dearest friends and favorite songwriters has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed."
