Samoa Amerika adalah sebuah negara dimana sepakbola kalah popularitasnya dengan olahraga-olahraga lainnya seperti America Football, Baseball, dan Basketball. Jumlah penduduk yang kecil dan bukan fans sepak bola menjadi alasan kenapa sepak bola di Samoa tidak berkembang.
Tim ini hanya mencetak sekali kemenangan ketika mengalahkan tim nasional Wallis dan Futuna di babak penyisihan turnamen sepak bola South Pacific Games pada tahun 1983, tetapi kedua tim tersebut pada saat itu belum menjadi anggota FIFA sehingga Samoa Amerika tetap memduduki posisi paling bawah versi FIFA.
