Let Me Go Before I Die Chapter 01
I was with Theodore Kingsley for three years.
Too trapped by my own trauma to admit I wasn’t a virgin.
Not until the night we got married did he find out.
Theodore didn’t stop—not entirely.
But at the very last second, he pulled back.
His voice was low, icy, and casual as he breathed against my ear: "Liar."
After that night, he never touched me again. Never shared my bed.
Instead, he threw himself into one affair after another—outside our home.
On our third wedding anniversary, I walked in to find him in our bed with his mistress
Theodore pulled on his robe, unhurried. His gaze dragged over me where I stood frozen in the doorframe.
"Well, I'm not a virgin anymore either, Rosalie. Now we're even."
I looked at him, then at the rose petals scattered across the floor and the wedding portrait we had taken three years ago.
In that moment, everything felt utterly ridiculous.
"I want a divorce, Theodore."
***
The wedding photo above the headboard now had two blurry handprints on it.
One on the left, one on the right, stamped directly over the faces of Theodore and me.
Anyone could see exactly what they’d been doing moments before.
"What's the problem this time?"
His careless laugh rang right in my ear.
I sucked in a breath. "My lawyer already drew up the divorce papers."
Before Theodore could speak, the woman curled into him, a soft laugh slipping from her lips.
"Ms. Ashford, you’ve known this for ages. Theo doesn’t hate you. He’s just a little obsessive about cleanliness."
From her tone, it was clear she assumed I wanted a divorce because Theodore had never slept with me.
I frowned, just about to argue.
"Rosalie."
Theodore paused for a moment before speaking again, his voice carrying a trace of contempt. "She's right. You know me—I've always had a bit of a cleanliness obsession. I don't like other people touching my things, including people."
His words were a blade, slicing open the softest part of my heart over and over.
I knew he had always been hung up on the fact that I wasn't a virgin.
But I wasn't intentionally hiding it.
I was only ten years old when it happened. It left a scar I’d never outrun.
I couldn’t bear to lay my ugliest scar bare for the man I loved.
So I hid it.
But he didn't believe a word I said.
Looking down at me from a position of superiority, he mocked me coldly. "You made up this whole story just to hide how little you value yourself.
"Rosalie, you didn’t just lie to me. The girl I fell for? That was all an act, too."
Thinking back to those words he once said, I watched the two of them entwined together.
I felt nothing at all—only the quiet certainty that I had to leave him.
"So let's part peacefully."
Even now, Theodore didn't believe I was serious.
He didn't even bother lifting his eyelids, still speaking with his usual contempt. "Rosalie, you lied to me, and now you’ll lie to someone else? You really have no shame."
I didn't answer. I simply stood in the doorway, waiting until Talia Norwood got up and left.
Once I stepped closer, Theodore reached out and pinched my chin, rubbing it lightly between his fingers. "Rosalie, this face of yours is exactly how you fooled me.
"Once you leave, there’s no coming back."
