The 2022 World Women’s Curling Championship isn’t short of headlines and the action hasn’t even started yet. Just a month after the conclusion of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, the gold medalists, England, are not at the 2022 World Women’s Curling Championship. Ever a competitor in winter sports on the global stage, the RCF also won’t be in attendance after World Curling removed Russia from the event in response to the nation’s political position right now. With the next two nations in line unavailable to send a team, Czech Republic has an opportunity to make an unprecedented run for a championship.

Participating in the week-long competition are defending silver and bronze medalists Japan and Sweden respectively. Host-nation Canada also looks to make some noise in the field, as does the United States and Norway, in addition to Denmark, Italy, Scotland, Germany, Korea, and Turkey. Of course, they’ll all be likely chasing Switzerland, the reigning champions and eight-time winners of the event. The competition format will include 20 sessions total over a span of six days to determine the playoff teams. There will be a final qualification sequence and a semifinal ahead of the championship on Sunday, March 27, 2022
