Ant-Man Composer Returning for Ant-Man & The Wasp
Quote:Director Peyton Reed has now confirmed that the composer from the first Ant-Man will be returning to work on the sequel. Ant-Man and the Wasp is set for release next summer, and as Marvel gears up to start filming, fans are awaiting some big news. Reed has already posted cryptically to Instagram this month, and with confirmation from Marvel that filming is set to start in Atlanta in a couple of weeks, plenty of new information about the film should start rolling out any day now.

Casting news has already started to appear, including the confirmation that Hannah John-Kamen will be joining the cast in a “major role,” and T.I. will be returning. He’s far from the only cast member who is back for round two, of course. The director, Reed, and the major stars of the original are all back for the sequel, and now Reed has confirmed that someone else is also back on board.

After tweeting his mysterious Instagram post about the film, Reed was inundated with questions from fans, including one who asked about the possible return of Ant-Man composer Christophe Beck. Reed was only happy to answer on Twitter, and to confirm that Beck will indeed be back for the sequel, responding with a straightforward answer.

spoiler

In addition to composing the score for Ant-Man, Beck is known for his work on Frozen, The Hangover, and Edge of Tomorrow. He has also worked on a few superhero films in the past, including Elektra and a single song for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also previously worked with Joss Whedon, who directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron for the MCU.

Beck’s return is great news for fans of the original Ant-Man, as he promises to bring the same kind of talent and composition to the sequel. It seems that with the exception of new characters, almost all of the original creative team is back for round two, which should mean that the sequel lives up to the original – and may even surpass it in terms of success. However, this isn’t too much of a surprise, either. After Beck replaced the original choice for the film (Steven Price), there have been no signs that the composer wouldn’t be returning for Ant-Man and the Wasp, especially given that Reed is back in the director’s chair. Still, it is nice to get some confirmation, to see Reed interacting with fans online, and to know that the original team is back together again for another great superhero movie.

Evangeline Lilly Teases New Wasp Costume in Ant-Man 2
Quote:With Ant-Man 2 production reportedly slated to begin next month in Atlanta, it seems some of the cast members are getting ready for shooting to start. Evangeline Lilly, who returns as Hope Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, revealed on social media that she recently had a fitting for her new Wasp costume. While she wouldn't offer any specific details about the suit, the actress certainly did seem excited to get back to work. And she showed off some of the concept art that was on display at the recent Marvel open house. Here's what she had to say.

Quote:"Had a fitting for my #Wasp costume last week. Am I the only one getting excited????? #eee #antmanandthewasp #marvel @marvel"

The actress wouldn't say more about the project on Twitter, but the actress is quite active on social media, so hopefully we'll get many more updates from the set as soon as production gets under way. There still hasn't been an exact production start date given for Ant-Man 2 yet, but production will take place at Pinewood Studios Atlanta, which has become Marvel's regular go-to location as of late. Avengers: Infinity War was filmed there earlier this year, along with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War and the original Ant-Man, along with the upcoming Black Panther.

Back in February, it was finally confirmed that Michael Douglas will return for this sequel as Hank Pym, putting an end to months of speculation about his return. The actor had said in the past that he would like to reprise his role as Hank Pym, but under the condition that his character isn't given so much exposition this time around. Just after Michael Douglas' return was confirmed, another Ant-Man star, Michael Pena, who played the fast-talking Luis in the original movie, said he wasn't sure if his character is coming back in the sequel quite yet. However, it seems that another co-star, David Dastmalchian, will be back as Kurt, since the actor teased some "mind-blowing action" in the sequel.

Another report from March claimed that MCU star, Jeremy Renner will return as Hawkeye, balancing this shoot with the lengthy Avengers: Infinity War shoot. The actor's commitments to these two projects are said to be why he didn't return as Brandt in Paramount's Mission: Impossible 6, which is currently filming, but that hasn't been confirmed, nor has his return as Hawkeye in Ant-Man 2. His return would make sense, though, seeing as how they were both a part of Team Cap in Captain America: Civil War, and were both part of quite the memorable scene, where the miniscule Ant-Man hitched a ride on the tip of one of Hawkeye's arrows during the epic airport fight scene.

Aside from returning as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Paul Rudd also returned to help write the script for Ant-Man and the Wasp, alongside Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. Marvel has set a July 6, 2018 release date for this superhero sequel, which will go up against Lionsgate's action-comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed will also return to the helm, and with the rumored production start date getting closer and closer, hopefully we'll find out more about this sequel soon. Until then, take a look at Evangeline Lilly's tweet below.

Hannah John-Kamen joins Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp
Quote:
Ant-Man & The Wasp (2018)

Variety is reporting that the upcoming Marvel sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp has found its first new cast addition, with Hannah John-Kamen (Game of Thrones, Killjoys) signing for an as-yet-unrevealed role in the film.

The British actress joins the returning Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michael Pena (Luis), David Dastmalchian (Kurt) and T.I. (Dave). Ant-Man director Peyton Reed also returns to direct the film, from a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

The film becomes the latest high-profile project for John-Kamen, who has recently completed work on the Tomb Raider reboot and also stars in a lead role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

Quote:Details on Hannah John-Kamen's Role & Luis' New Love Interest in 'Ant-Man and The Wasp' Revealed
Quote:The cast of Ant-Man and The Wasp will be heading to Atlanta to begin filming soon, but very little is known about who will be joining the returning stars from the first film. One addition is actress Hannah John-Kamen, who joined the cast earlier this month in an unspecified role. Thanks to a source with knowledge of the production of the film, we were able to get a little more info on the role!

Kamen will be portraying a character named Dawn. Though the exact nature of Dawn’s role was not revealed, she is described as charismatic, eccentric, unpredictable and damaged. It’s not clear if Dawn is a new character created for the film or if she is adapted from the comics; while there are several characters named Dawn from which to draw in the comics, none of them seem to have a rich history as a supporting character in any Ant-Man stories. A character named Dawn Starr does catch the attention of fans of the comics who recognize the last name as the same one as Hank Pym’s nemesis Egghead, or Elihas Starr. However, Dawn and Elihas were not related in the comics, though Marvel Studios could certainly find a way to make that change if they wanted, so we can’t exactly settle on her.

Kamen’s Dawn is one of 3 female roles added to the sequel, joining the yet to be cast Janet van Dyne and one more surprise role. While the role may well be cast at this point, we can tell you that the studio was searching for a Latino actress for the role of Victoria, who will join the cast as the love interest for Michael Pena’s Luis. Described as a bit of a “loose cannon”, Victoria will be a part of the film’s comic relief but is also described as tough and smart with a “dangerous edge.”

With production beginning soon, possibly as soon as this Friday, we can expect some confirmation on these roles soon along with some other additions to the cast. Ant-Man and The Wasp will hit theaters July 6, 2018.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Cast Randall Park as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Jimmy Woo
Quote:Randall Park has joined the cast of Ant-Man & The Wasp in a role that points towards S.H.I.E.L.D.’s return to the big screen. Following the success of Ant-Man, Marvel Studios changed course just a bit to fit a sequel into Phase 3. Peyton Reed was brought back to direct a sequel that will not only once again feature Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, but also see Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne get a larger role and the chance to suit up as Wasp.

Outside of the returning cast, news on the sequel has been quiet. Hannah John-Kamen was the only other new cast member previously announced, with a few other female leads still left to be cast. However, the latest casting news brings the star of Fresh Off the Boat into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tracking-Board is reporting that Marvel has cast Randall Park in one of the new roles for Ant-Man & The Wasp. Unlike previous castings, his role is not a secret with it being revealed that he is playing S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo. Woo has been a part of Marvel Comics since the mid 1950s, and his inclusion in this film appears to confirm that S.H.I.E.L.D. will be making a triumphant return to the big screen.
While Woo is not a recognizable comic name for many, his history has had him connect with various Marvel heroes and villains throughout his time on the page. How they plan to adapt him to the big screen is unclear at the moment, but with Tracking-Board‘s report signifying he will keep his S.H.I.E.L.D. ties, this could be a rather significant inclusion when everything is said and done.

S.H.I.E.L.D. has not had a heavy role to play in any MCU movie since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and ever since has been put in the shadows of the universe. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been left to deal with this transition in a multitude of ways, with the closest thing to a full S.H.I.E.L.D. revival on the big screen coming in Avengers: Age of Ultron – when Fury arrives to Sokovia with the Helicarriers.

Bringing S.H.I.E.L.D. back into the fold in some way for Ant-Man & The Wasp could be a nice surprise and one that is perfectly timed. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will have concluded its fifth (and possibly final) season just a few weeks before this movie hits theaters, and with the team currently in space, there is no telling how S.H.I.E.L.D. will progress over the next year. However, the possibilities are fascinating thanks to Park’s casting. Considering his comedic ability, he should be a great fit for the sequel.
