Literary Appreciation " The Fault In Our Stars " Movie
Literary Appreciation “ The Fault In Our Stars “ Movie

I appreciate the movie “ The Fault In Our Stars ( TFIOS ) “ directed by Josh Boone. The film is adapted from the popular novel by John Green of the same title by 20th Century Fox. The story is presented in a reasonable manner without excessive drama measurements. This story is quiet memorable for me, there are some scenes that I like from this film that makes me touched by their story. Besides that, the theme in this film is also quiet inspiring, it is about adolescent life stuggle against cancer, it tell us that people with cancer or other dangerous diseases are actually not to be ostracised, but how should we treat them better, they live not by their own choice, but we have to give them a better choice, an opportunity. Moreover, the characterization experienced by the main character in this film also deserves to be appreciated.

The story begin with a 16 years old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster who fought against her thyroid cancer. In the first scene we can see that she is lying on the grass and star gazing. Also we can hear her voice which shows that she is the main character. Furthermore, we can hear the music that is slow and calming representing the overall tone of the film.

In the next scene, we can see that Hazel was attending the support group because of her mother’s insistence. Her mother wants hazel to make friends, and so she would. This scene shows that Hazel have a good and obedient character. “ And, so I would. Not because I want to, or because this group can help me, but for the same reason, I would do anything today. To make my parents happy. “ This quote shows that hazel still comes to the support group even though she actually doesn’t like it, for the reason to make her parents happy.

Then in the support group, Hazel met with Augustus Waters, a charming teenager who lost his leg because of osteosarcoma. When they first met in a support group, when Augustus Waters surprised Hazel by taking out a cigarette and started to stick it in his mouth. Hazel’s expression was very disappointed in Gus because Hazel was so impressed with Gus at the time. “ They don’t actually hurt you unless you burn it, I’ve never burn it. It’s a metaphor. You put this killer thing in your teeth, but don’t ever give strength to this thing to kill you. A metaphor. “ In this quotation shows that Augustus have a smart character.

Gus invites Hazel to his house and this is where their love story begins. They told each other about their story and their interest. Hazel gives her favorite novel “ An Imperial Afliction “ to Gus, a novel about a girl suffering from cancer named Anna who is similar to her experience, then Gus gave Hazel a novel “ Counter Insurgence “ an adaptation novel from his favorite video game.

After he finished reading the novel, he was confused by the end of the novel as if the story stopped in the middle of a sentence. Then Hazel tells about the mysterious author who is currently living in Amsterdam. And one day Gus told Hazel that he had found Peter Van Houten’s assistant and she invited them to visit Amsterdam. Then they went to Amsterdam in hopes of knowing the end of the story in the novel that he wrote. But unfortunately their visit was in vain because evidently the author is an alcoholic.

In conclusion, overall the film is pretty good with an inspiring theme. This film teaches us to always be grateful and respect each other. We can also see their passion for survival against cancer for people they love and their passion in reaching their goals.
