POST-2019 APOCALYPSE
Started as an "iseng-iseng" story in my facebook wall post, back in 2017. It was originally written with Pilkada DKI 2017 as the background, but later changed to the upcoming Pemilu 2019. Later, I find it hard to stop emoticon-Big Grin, and kept writing ever since...

Warning : This fictional story may contain violence and sensitive issues, such as political, racial, and/or religious

Note : This is a work of fiction. Names, places, events are either the product of author's imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons or events is purely coincidental. Author has no affiliation with any media, political parties nor their support groups.

INDEX :
Spoiler for "index":

<<<< POST-2019 APOCALYPSE, EPISODE ONE >>>>>

... Day 700 after the war. I was scavenging for weapons and supplies from a place used to be a mini-market. During the war, this place was used as a hideout from one of the survivors group. Militants from both opposing sides were using mostly melee weapons or home-made bombs, but if you're lucky, you may find some firearms lying around...

Didn't find any guns or bullets, but I was lucky to find a cabinet filled with instant noodles. Ahh.. the only edible food from the era before the war. Back then, my only problem was deciding where I will have lunch during office breaks. Now my problem is to make sure nobody sneaks in and stabs me from behind while I'm having my lunch. This morning I had to kill 3 youngsters trying to steal my breakfast. I even resisted the urge to impale one of them in front of my bunker, as a deterrent to other thieves...

I broke open one of the noodle package, and sprinkled the seasoning on top the uncooked noodle, and eat it raw. Did all those while my left hand still ready on the trigger, just in case this was an ambush. But after a while, I decided to put my gun down, and enjoy my food with both hands, while my mind wandered to the comfort life before this cursed war, or as we survivors called it: The Post-Election Apocalypse...

<<<< POST-2019 APOCALYPSE, EPISODE TWO >>>>>

I didn't even remember who won the presidential election, or should I say, the dreadful event that led to this war. I only remember that the losing side didn't accept their defeat, and started a violent nationwide protests. The winning side also responded in such a non-peaceful manner as well. Things got escalated beyond control, and like a chain reaction, we eventually ended up in one of the most brutal war in the history of man. Both sides were so deeply fanatical to whom they voted for, and thought that the other side must be somewhat brainwashed....

Why did I survive the war?
Probably because I was a neutral (a "golput" as they said).
Probably because of my 'not-so-bad' survival skill.
Probably because I wasn't near the ground zero when the nuclear exploded.
Probably because my choice of ride got me fast enough to escape some conflict zones.
Probably because my past eating habit somehow caused my body to develop immunity to all those chemical weapons.
Or probably it was just luck....

... But like they say, luck will eventually runs out. I opened my shotgun ammo pouch, and counted my remaining luck. Seven buckshot shells in the pouch, and two in the gun itself. That should be enough luck for the time being...

============================

... The whole survivor camp was very hectic that evening. One of the woman was giving birth....

Few years ago, such thing was normal. But now, with the lack of proper medical equipments and facilities, it became a life and death situation....

The good news, the baby came out just fine. It was a girl. Her mother named her "Alice"...
The bad news, her father could not see her born. He was killed a few weeks before when defending the camp against an attack...

......

Some time after, Chieftain Danny and Doctor Eriksen sat on the front porch of the main building. They were having some coffee while overseeing the camp's defense.

"I envy the baby, you know...", said Danny. He didn't seem exhausted at all, even though a while ago he was busy coordinating all the help during the child birth process.

A cup of coffee held in his right hand, a pair of binoculars in his left, and an AF-2011 Dueller Prismatic holstered in his belt.

"The baby? Why? She will have a very difficult life ahead, what good from that?", asked Eriksen.

"That's the point. She'll never know what it was like before all of this. Nothing to compare with. She was born into this, not like us. We were used to have a very convenient life. Just a few taps on your phone, and a nice warm super-supreme pizza is delivered to your front door. Now, people will kill each other just for a slice...", Danny said.

Danny continued, "Man, I still can't believe a god-damned election could cause all this. I know that people hate each other for having a different political stance, but I don't think they would kill for it..."

"Same here. We should've saw it coming. I used to block and unfriend all my contacts who couldn't stop yammering about politics. My social media newsfeed was full of online bullying, pointless debates, and overpride over some politician's achievement, so I blocked them all. But apparently that's the same as turning off our radar just because the pings were too noisy. Now we can't see where the attack is coming from..."

"I think the 2019 election wasn't the sole cause. Maybe we are a violent species after all. Our ego is such a fragile thing. Mention that someone's favourite football team had lost, or his choice of college major sucks, or his opinion is false, his problem-solving method is wrong, or simply insult his video game skills, and he will likely be triggered... I used to study marine biology. Sometime I wonder if this is a karma because of the things we did to the ocean..."

Eriksen nodded in agreement. "I wish I still have all my hobbies and collections now. Who knows, maybe they can be sold for much higher price after all this..."

"Now you can try collecting firearms and ammunitions. Those are number one priorities..."

"Speaking of guns, how many have you killed, if I may ask?"

The chieftain paused a bit to count in his head. "Hmm.... Maybe around thirty or forty, I don't know. You?"

"Zombies included? A hundred and sixty three...", said the doctor. Proudly.

...Holy mother of Soviet Union, Danny thought. He was horrified but at the same time felt glad that this person was on their side in this war...

--------------------------------

... Meanwhile, somewhere in Central Jakarta.....

"Murdock? That you? Man, it's so good to finally see a familiar face. How you been?", said Mojo, lowering his shotgun.

"Nice to see you too... I thought you were dead... Wait, is that a grenade launcher?" Murdock just noticed the M-79 when Mojo dismounted his motorcycle.

"Yep, I named it Steve, just like our IT manager. Because it is old, loud, can solve problems, and outputs a lot of smoke. Who is the girl by the way?", Mojo looked at the teenage girl next to Murdock, who just a few moments ago saved Mojo from the sentry gun.

"This is Andrea, I also just met her yesterday. Come on, let's head to a safer place...", said Murdock, as he led the way.

.... After a few minutes walk, they finally reached some kind of a safe house on the third floor of an abandoned office building.

Mojo looked around, there were a few mattress to sleep on, a cabinet to store food supplies, and a desk. On that desk were some guns, bullets, and a tactical knife. The windows were partially smashed, and covered with some cloth. A matress was positioned near one of the broken window, most likely for a sniping position.

Some playing cards can be seen scattered in one corner. The previous survivors who lived in this place probably played some poker or go-fish to kill the boredom. "No guns allowed" sign can be seen near that corner. Perhaps to prevent something bad when one of the players caught cheating.

Mojo and Murdock had some more conversations that night. They both were actually tired, but kept on talking anyway because it has been a while since they last saw each other.

... Finally Mojo was getting too exhausted, and decided to go for one of the available mattress. He put his shotgun and M-79 beside him....

Murdock also went to take a rest. From their conversation, he was convinced that the man is still Mojo he used to know. He decided to trust him, at least for the time being...

...Murdock reached for the gun on his back, and switched the safety back on...
