Coldplay adalah band alternative rock yang dibentuk di London, Inggris pada tanggal 16 Januari 1998. Kelompok ini terdiri dari vokalis / pianis / gitaris Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland memimpin gitaris, bassis Guy Berryman, drummer / multi-instrumentalis Will Champion dan - former manager juga directure band - Phil Harvey. Coldplay telah menjual 35 juta album, dan juga dikenal karena single hit mereka seperti "Yellow", ", Speed of Sound", "The Scientist","Fix You", "Viva la Vida" dan pemenang Grammy Award " Clocks".
Coldplay mulai terkenal di seluruh dunia dengan merilis single "Yellow", diikuti dengan album debut mereka, Parachute (2000), yang dinominasikan untuk Mercury Prize. Di ikuti, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) memenangkan beberapa penghargaan seperti NME's Album of the Year dan kemudian disertakan pada majalah Rolling Stone 500 Album Greatest All Time List, peringkat di # 473.Berikutnya mereka merilis, X & Y (2005), menerima sedikit kurang antusias namun resepsi masih umumnya positif. Studio Band Album selanjutnya yaitu, Viva la Vida atau Death and all His Friends (2008), diproduksi oleh Brian Eno dan dirilis kembali untuk sebagian besar tinjauan yang menguntungkan. Semua album Coldplay telah menikmati sukses komersial yang besar.
Sejak merilis album Parachute, Coldplay mulai di pengaruhi sumber lain, termasuk Echo dan Bunnymen, Kate Bush dan George Harrison di A Rush of Blood to the Head, Johnny Cash dan Kraftwerk untuk X & Y dan Blur, Arcade Fire dan My Bloody Valentine di Viva la Vida. Coldplay juga telah menjadi pendukung aktif berbagai sosial dan politik, seperti Oxfam's Make Trade Fair kampanye dan Amnesti Internasional. Mereka juga membuat beberapa project seperti seperti Band Aid 20, Live 8, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
