Renault Trucks Defense (RTD) has won a major order to supply 443 new patrol vehicles for France's special forces, it was announced on 7 January.

The contract, placed by the French defence procurement agency (the Direction Générale de l'Armement - DGA) includes two different variants of the vehicle - light (Véhicules Légers des Forces Spéciales) and heavy (Véhicules Lourds des Forces Spéciales). It also includes the "integration of intelligence and sensitive communications equipment and their supporting elements", according to the DGA.

In total, the contract includes 241 light vehicles and 202 heavy vehicles. The first 25 of the latter will be rushed into service in 2016, while the first light vehicles will be delivered in 2018.

Currently, French special forces units use a diverse range of vehicles which, given the current high tempo of their deployments, have suffered heavy wear and tear, the DGA noted. Accordingly, the new special forces vehicle programme is aimed at meeting "the operational needs of more demanding missions, such as intelligence or neutralization actions in depth in hostile areas as discreetly as possible, and aims to improve interoperability and performance level of the vehicle park of Army, Air Force and Navy special forces", the DGA emphasised.

Platforms expected to be either fully or partially replaced by the new vehicles include the ACMAT VLRA 4x4 and 6x6, various versions of the ACMAT Light Tactical Vehicle (ALTV), and the Panhard Special Forces Light Vehicle (VPS), alongside any remaining units of the older Peugeot P4 SAS 4x4, Auverland A3F 4x4, or Berliet 6x6.

According to the DGA, the programme will principally involve RTD subsidiary Panhard and Essonne Security for the design and production of common equipment for both vehicle types.

light utility patrol vehicle kek gini cocok untuk memantau border area di sepanjang perbatasan NTT dan Timor-Leste, apalagi Indonesia juga sudah punya produk sejenis buatan sendiri.
